NON-NEWTONIAN ANALYSIS OF DRUG ELUTING STENTS

Drug-eluting stents are widely used to avoid the formation of re-stenosis or neointimal hyperplasia. Numerical investigation of drug-eluting stents has been performed, to assess the drug deposition along the arterial wall under non-Newtonian flow. An Eulerian-Lagrangian approach is used to resolve the hemodynamic flow, using ANSYS FLUENT, and the drug concentration is obtained by solving the mass transport equation simultaneously. It has been found that changing the flow from Newtonian to non-Newtonian results in increase of drug deposition along the arterial wall and variation of other physical parameters reveals the performance of drug-eluting stents under non-Newtonian flow.
